Your UTV is a powerful, compact, and rugged machine, but it’s not invincible. It relies on you to make sure it stays in good condition, and you can rely on us here at Bobcat of York/Frederick/Hagerstown/Adams County to give you the tips you need to make that happen. If you have any questions, or if you just want to see the UTVs we have for sale, contact our four stores across Pennsylvania and Maryland, today!

Owner’s Manual

Like with any complicated equipment, your first line of defence is your owner’s manual. We can give some great general advice, but that manual is written for your UTV specifically. It will include recommended maintenance schedules, general information about parts and functions, and recommended products. If you can’t find yours, look on the manufacturer’s website for a version you can download and print for yourself.

Battery

Your engine can’t start without your battery, not to mention all the gauges and lights that rely on it, making it a vital component. To keep it happy, regularly check the battery posts, preferably once a month. You want them clean and corrosion free for a healthy battery, but if it develops a crust, you may need a replacement.

Tires

Like the battery, your UTV isn’t going far without its tires. You’ll need to check to make sure the tire pressure matches the recommended psi listed in your manual. If the air pressure is too high, just let some out in small increments. If it’s too low, refill the tires and keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t need refilling too soon, which may indicate a hole.

You should also check the tread level regularly. Wear and tear is expected, and you’ll have to replace the tires once it reaches a certain point, but excessive or uneven wear can indicate serious problems. If you encounter those, take your UTV in to a trusted service center for a checkup.

Brakes

As important as getting your UTV to go is, getting it to stop is just as important. Check your brake pads to make sure they’re properly thick, that the lines are routed properly, and that the brake fluid is at the right levels and consistency. You should also keep a lookout for any shuddering, vibrating, or squealing that occurs when braking. Any troubles you discover with your brakes should be left to a professional.

There’s more to UTV maintenance than just those parts, but they’ll get you off on the right foot.
