Vernon Murphy ~ Employee Spotlight January 2021

Our first Employee Spotlight of 2021 is the ever-distinguished Mr. Vernon Murphy. We all know Vern as not only the Rental guy and Inside Sales Specialist at our Bobcat of Lancaster location, but he also serves as our store manager’s right-hand man.  I guess you could call him our “utility player”, and all-around great guy to boot.  However, before joining the ranks with Bobcat Vern worked for an antiques dealer repairing and refinishing antiques, and in the manufacturing of acrylic geography globes.  Now that’s a pretty unique work history.

 Vernon is a faithful man of God, and a strong family man.  He enjoys spending his free time with his wife Sherry, their five children & their spouses & grandchildren.  They enjoy traveling to many places but are especially drawn to Disney World and the Outerbanks in the Carolinas. 

 Vern is also an avid runner having competed in multiple half marathons and one marathon.  In 2009 his late wife Beth, passed away after a nine-year long battle with breast cancer.  It was his faith in God that helped him cope with the loss and made him understand that God wanted him to use his experience to help others.  In 2011 Vern founded OneRunTogether, Inc., a nonprofit that assists local cancer patients in Chester and Berks Counties.  Through 5k races and other events, OneRunTogether, Inc raises funds to help cancer patients pay their rent, mortgage, utilities, car repairs, childcare and more.  Such an incredible gift to pass along to both honor Beth and our Lord.

 The most important lesson Vernon feels he has learned along the way is, “never say never, because God has a sense of humor”.   Indeed, he does Vern, and he has a plan for each of us!
